I get about 22 mpg in the winter with snow tires and ski rack. During the summer I get about 26, that's mostly highway miles cruising at 75-80 mph.

X5 4.8i is HORRIBLE. About 8mpg city and 14/15mpg highway
750Li is about 12/13 mpg city and 15/16 highway
Z8 is better, with about 15/16 city, and about 18 highway

Even though the X5 4.8i gives such poor mileage, it makes up for it being one of the safest cars on the road, and the safest car ever tested by IIHS!!

I get about 300 something miles out of a tank of gas......so laughing. Don't know what that figures too.....do you????
Our 2007 750Li is a hungry, hungry little gas pig [clap] Basically 12 mpg in the city (13 if lucky). It seems that BMW 8 cylinder engines are not as frugal as MBZ, Lexus, Audi and Jaguar...whose V8 engines all deliver surprisingly great mileage.

I can get 25mpg on average driving normally in a hilly road up and down doing 65-70mph. If I drive like a grandmother I can get 27 or 28mpg but that's pushing it. As for city mileage, the X3 gets about 14mpg, and I don't know about heavy traffic, my guess would be even lower.

I have to say the 2007 X3 3.0si is one of the most efficient SUVs BMW has ever built.

I am curious, if driving down a steep incline and shifting the car into neutral while riding the brakes to control speed is harmful in anyway?

I am leasing it and I don't pay for brakes nor do I care if the transmission lasts to 100k, the car will be long gone by then.

As long as i don't get a lead foot my 96 328i does very well. Even with it being supercharged with an aftercooler. As i drive on the expressway to get to the golf course 26 miles from home, i have noted 26 mpg at 75 mph. At 65 mph i have noted 29 mph. Guess all depends on how fast i want to get where i want to go.
But the question i have is: If you drive a high bred vehicle, enjoy the road feedback one gets, like the thrill of cornering the on ramps, accelerating to merge and get in the left lane, do we really care about the mpg? No, we merely stop by our favorite gas pump, slide the debit card and fill up.
If we want something less enjoyable to drive, want to sip the fuel available to us we all would drive Toyota's.

Grin and bear it people. If milage is your issue, sell what you have and get the gas sipper.

LOL

Average 22-24 MPG in my 95 540i w/ Dinan chip and K&N airbox---commute 50 miles daily so most is highway. Not bad for a V8!

Wife gets about 19-20 around town in her 98 M3C.

Cannot complain...and my 97 Ford Expedition 4x4 sits in the driveway! (at 12-13 MPH, I only use it on weekends for hauling stuff.)

My 2006 325I (sport package plus) gets the average of 25 city/highway combined. I live in DC area and av 80MPG on highway when traffic is light. I drive some backroads to work...not much "city" driving but is "stop and go" on highway in rush hour as well as on some back roads.

25 MPG OBC states.....
