Okay, so this morning I was driving to work -> [driving]

Then a SUV kicked a rock up -> [:0]

Now, My windshield is cracked -> [V]

So, I call my insurance company -> [:I]

And they say that they will only pay
for cheap glass ~$350 -> [:(!]

Since thats less than my deductible
I have to pay the whole $550 to $700 -> [mad]

Is the factory glass that much better than the PPG replacement?

Dont deal with the insurance company, only talk to them if you are dealing with something in the thousands. It will count against you in the long run dont even bother.

You would not want to get the cheapest grade glass, usually even higher grades of glass dont cost more thain $500. Many places will get the windshield and come to you to install it. Call around.

My '87 Volvo has the original factory windshield with 200K + miles on it, highway driving. My '01 Ford Exploder (company vehicle) has 35,000 miles on the original windshield and is much more PITTED than the Volvo!

I think the European manufacturers use a better quality windshield, so the more expensive windshield should better, IMHO.
